Tumanbay - Series 2

Slaves, spies, armies, assassinations, desert, plagues, death… Epic historical drama returns to BBC Radio 4

Tumanbay, once the beating heart of the most powerful and wealthy empire on earth, has been conquered by a brutal religious regime, the followers of the mysterious Maya. Responsible for rooting out heretics and unbelievers, is the terrifying Inquisitor Barakat.

As refugees scramble to escape the city by any means they can, Gregor, previously Master of the Palace Guard, has sworn an oath to the new rulers in an effort to survive and even prosper, as the regime sets about looting and dismantling the city of everything of value.

Series 2 begins on BBC Radio 4 on Tue 25th April 2017.

“This strange and rather brilliant series – set in a civilisation that might be from the distant past or the unknowable future – returns. In this opening episode, zealots are laying waste to the once beautiful and wealthy city of Tumanbay, where treachery lurks at every corner… A terrific piece of radio drama, steeped in exotic atmosphere.” Susan Jeffreys, Daily Mail
